Colophon

Method

This catalog was assembled in conversation between chris and claude over the course of an afternoon. The method was simple: propose a genus; name species with pseudo-Latin binomials; describe each with the phenomenological specificity that distinguishes it from its siblings. No species was included unless both parties recognized it.

Source

Single-source-of-truth: build.py in this directory. The species catalog lives there as plain python data structures; both the markdown and the html are generated from the same source. Editing either output directly will be overwritten on the next build — edit the data.

Design

Set in plain+ v1.0 (plainplusdesign.netlify.app). Body in charter; headings in the system sans. Accent #67a (the technical variant), used in three places: the hairline at the top of every page, link hover, and species-entry left rule. No rounded corners, no gradients, no shadows, no icons.

Open questions

The third phylum — filter-as-posture — was added after Phylum I and II were already populated. Several species in Phylum II are now candidates for migration: Sermo interior dialogicus (a posture toward an absent interlocutor), Desiderium rei quae adest (a stance toward what one is holding). Migrations have been deferred pending a review pass.

Outstanding structural questions: whether Sermo interior as a whole belongs in Phylum II or forms a third axis; whether Phylum III needs further sub-structure (the held-postures vs. the held-postures-that-have-ended may be a distinction worth drawing). Also: a full Contactus sui (modes of being-seen by oneself) is missing from the genus and probably should exist.
