Reading Notes

This is my reading log. For each book I read, I type out its table of contents and, where it’s useful, its bibliography — then add my own notes, reactions, and the passages worth keeping.

Typing a book’s structure by hand is slow on purpose. It’s how I read closely: the table of contents shows how the author built the argument, and the bibliography shows the conversation the book is part of. Over time these notes link to each other, so a citation in one book becomes a path to the next.

How these notes are organized

Each book lives in books/ with the same shape:

  1. Frontmatter — title, author, year, ISBN, the dates I read it, a rating, and tags.
  2. Table of contents — typed out, chapter by chapter.
  3. Notes & reactions — what I’m thinking as I read.
  4. Quotes — passages worth keeping.
  5. Bibliography / sources — works the book draws on, linked to other notes where I have them.
